How to use the Screenshot Stitcher

  1. Take screenshots of a long page from the top down, scrolling a little less than a full screen each time so every shot repeats a strip of the one before.
  2. Paste them here one after another with Ctrl+V, drop them all at once, or click to choose files. Use the arrows or By name to put them in order.
  3. The tool finds the repeated strip between each pair, removes it, and also removes sticky headers and bottom bars that appear in every shot.
  4. Click a dashed line in the preview to see that join up close. If a line of text looks doubled or cut, nudge the scroll distance by 1 or 10 pixels.
  5. Download one PNG, JPG or WebP, or a PDF cut into A4 or Letter pages.

How the overlap is found

Each screenshot is reduced to a fingerprint of every row (or column, for side-by-side joins). The tool slides one fingerprint over the next, first coarsely and then pixel by pixel, and picks the position where the repeated strip matches best. Rows that look the same in every shot at the same place are treated as fixed bars. A changing clock in a phone's status bar or a highlighted link does not throw it off, because the few rows that disagree are left out of the comparison. The cut is made in the middle of the repeated strip, away from shadows at the edge of sticky headers.

Frequently asked questions 7

How do I take a full-page screenshot without an extension?

Take ordinary screenshots while you scroll, each overlapping the previous one by a few lines, then paste them here. The overlap is found automatically and the result is one long image, just like a full-page capture. It works for web pages, chat conversations, phone apps and documents.

What about the header that stays at the top?

Bars that sit in the same place in every screenshot, such as a site header, an app bar or a bottom tab bar, are detected and kept only once: the header from the first shot and the bottom bar from the last. If one is missed, type its height under Fixed top bar or Fixed bottom bar.

What if the overlap is not found?

When two shots share nothing recognisable, for example a blank area or a page that changed while you scrolled, they are simply joined edge to edge and the join is marked. You can set the scroll distance by hand and check it in the close-up, or take that screenshot again with more overlap.

Can I join images side by side?

Yes. Choose Left to right to stitch a wide table, a timeline or a panorama from shots taken while scrolling sideways. Just join puts any images end to end without looking for overlap, with an optional gap and gap colour.

Why was my image made smaller?

Browsers cannot save a single image taller than 32,767 pixels or much larger than 250 megapixels. When the joined result is longer, it is scaled down to fit and you are told. PDF output is built one page at a time, so it keeps full detail for very long pages.

My screenshots have different widths. Is that a problem?

No. Every shot is scaled to the width of the first one before matching, so a screenshot from a different window size or a phone with a different resolution still lines up.

Are my screenshots uploaded?

No. Matching and joining happen in your browser. Your screenshots never leave your device, which matters when they show private chats, accounts or work documents.
